Getting a little 'snow drink'
American goldfinches in their winter feathers
Nuthatch
They spiral headfirst down tree trunks -- and rebar.
Male house finch
Dark-eyed junco
Juncos are one of the few birds that leap forward with both feet and then scrape backwards, again with both feet, to uncover the seeds that make up 75% of their diet in the summer and almost 100% in the winter.
Just look at the snow flying behind him!
Juncos are usually ground feeders -- but they've learned to perch at the nyjer seed feeder.
THE END
That's one chubby squirrel. My squirrels (here in NC) are anorexic compared to yours. But he's sooooo cute!
ReplyDeletewonderful pictures. thanks for sharing. our squirrels are like yours. a neighbor down the street feeds them regularly and well. lol. while others of us feed the birds. so we have happy and fat squirrels and birds.
