Columbine Appliqué Quilt Block

I've uploaded a new appliqué block, the columbine, for the Buoyant Blossoms BOM.  Free download here:  Columbine Appliqué Quilt Block

Photos: Trip to Florida, Day 8 -- Pensacola Lighthouse, National Naval Aviation Museum

Today we drove from Miramar, Florida, to Pascagoula, Mississippi.

Sooo... is he checking the weather, or looking for something on Craigslist that he can stop and pick up, en route?

View from our 3rd-floor room at Candlewood Suites.

Jets from either the nearby Eglin Air Force Base or Hurlburt Field

It's so high, the morning haze nearly blocks it from view.

The sand here is white as snow.

Some has been blown into dunes.

Cargo ship out of the Marshall Islands, the Nor Goliath

Her gross tonnage is 25,812 tons.

Nor Goliath won't be back in the Pensacola Port until September.

Cormorants

The structure of cormorant feathers decreases buoyancy and thus facilitates underwater pursuit of fishes. Their plumage is not water-repellent.  Therefore, they must sunbathe and dry those feathers frequently, or they could actually drown.

Now, that's a real, honest-to-goodness anchor, not one of those pretty 'coloring-book anchors' with which people decorate their yards now and then.

Pensacola Lighthouse

Unfortunately, we couldn't go up inside the lighthouse, as it was being renovated.

Look, I caught a pelican!

Larry 'greeted' it first before posing with it.

The pelican remained unamused.

Looking across the water to the Gulf Islands National Seashore

We can see the walls of Fort Pickens over there.  Too bad we didn't have time to go see it.

Lieutenant General Duane D. Thiessen greeted us, chatted with us for a little while, and then offered to take our picture.

You can read about it here.

Look, look!  Larry found the toys!

Attempting to make all the beads spin at once...

And this is the face he made when we told him we needed to continue on to Hanger One.

This road is called The Old Spanish Trail, and the bridge, heading northwest, is the Cochrane-Africatown USA Bridge over the Mobile River. The Saint Louis Reach is to the north, where Chickasaw Creek spills into the Mobile.
