Photos: Birds at the Feeders

I was surprised after ordering this Nyjer seed feeder to discover how big it was.  Unfortunately, the little birds that like Nyjer seed in our part of the country (finches, in particular) had a nearly impossible time trying to pull the seed from the metal mesh.  So Larry used his drill with a big bit and made larger holes all over it.  Now they like it just fine.

American goldfinches on the feeder.

I ordered another Nyjer seed feeder that I thought would about the same size as the first -- and was amazed when it was another third bigger!

Dark-eyed junco, so cute in his little charcoal tuxedo and pristine white shirt.

Blue jay.  They're beautiful birds, but when they come swooping in, all the little songbirds except the woodpeckers vamoose. The downy woodpeckers were feasting on the suet today, but by the time I grabbed my camera and got to the back patio door, they were gone.

The end.
