March 07, 2015 -- Grape Leafroller Moth

Photos taken with Tamron 100mm macro lens, with narrow depth of focus.  I hunted around for the name of this little moth, and was pleased to soon find a match.  The first photo was labeled, 'Small black and white moth.'  The second was captioned, 'Little black moth with white spots.'

Ah.  Well.  I knew that.  Finally found it at the All Experts in Entomology site.  It's a grape leafroller.

If I get another opportunity to get a photo of him, I'll widen the aperture to increase the depth of field, and get more of him in focus.

Here are a few more photos I took with my new lens.  This is a Boxelder bug.  Some people also call them 'Democrats' -- presumably because they come swarming out of the woodwork, gather in masses, and create a stink -- right about election time.

{Evidently this sobriquet was given the bug by a Republican.}

'Cheeeeeeeeese'

What do you do when you have a new macro lens -- and it's wintertime, and ♫ ♪ the weather outside ♫ ♪ is frightful ♫ ♪, and the insects and butterflies have all packed up their little Louis Vuitton bags and gone to Cancun?

Answer:  you take photos of pinheads and needle eyes and the very weave of your fabric.

 And, of course, the bright red little ladybug:
