Photos: from West Yellowstone to Mammoth Hot Springs

Today we drove from West Yellowstone, Montana, to Cody, Wyoming. This set of pictures takes us from West Yellowstone to Mammoth Hot Springs.

Days Inn restaurant in West Yellowstone where we ate breakfast.

Antiques such as coffeepots and teapots were on the window ledges all around the room.

Rustic Falls

The wind was blowing so hard, Larry could lean against it, and it held him up!

First time we've seen a bear in all the times we've been here. He wouldn't turn around and pose; this is the best I could do -- but it's enough to prove it's a bear!

Elk at Mammoth Hot Springs

Elk calf, somewhat worried about us, especially me with my camera. He kept turning his head and bleating, and we soon saw to whom he was addressing his queries.

"Ma! Are these people okay?!"

His mother finally came around the corner, took a look at us, and reassured her baby that we were fine and dandy.

Baby, seeing his mother's total unconcern, went back to grazing.

Even the big bull elks make themselves comfortable right in people's front lawns in Mammoth Springs.

"Ma! These thistles are *sticky*!!"

"Bleah."

Baby elk calf placidly chewing his cud.
