Getting Ready to Go to the Sandhills

We're getting ready to head out to the Sandhills for a little vacation.  We'll ride four-wheelers in Nebraska National Forest near Halsey... take kayaks on some of the rivers (Middle Loup, Dismal, Niobrara, etc.)...

Tabby found a little hollow (it's not a buffalo wallow -- must be a cat wallow) to lie in while he watches us.  He's been around long enough that I'm sure he realizes we're going somewhere.

And finally! -- we're off.  It's about 6:00 p.m.

And here we are at the Frontier Inn in Halsey.  The room is not much more than 12' by 12'.   But Victoria has a choice of upper bunk versus lower bunk.  Decisions, decisions.

If we turn it on, will it fall out of the wall?

Sure enough, a 'table', as advertised.  But ... it's either a butcher block or a tall bar counter section.  The 'chair' is a folded blanket on a rolling heater.

There are no rods or rings to hang towels on in the bathroom.  After putting three towels over the shower rod, the bar fell.

Did they think this was pretty?  A finished job?

Something incongruous -- a cedar-frame octagonal inset stained-glass, French-paned window with a light catcher in the middle.

Paint slopped down the front of the door.

The Ritz, this is not.  We have a reservation for tomorrow night, but I think we'll try to get a refund and move to better accommodations in Thedford, 17 miles to the west.
