15" of Snow

We got 15" of snow yesterday.  Today the sun is shining brightly, but it's only 25° with a wind chill of 12°, so it's not melting any time soon.

Look! -- Larry shoveled a pathway for me on the back deck, so I could get to the bird feeders!  And they did indeed need to be refilled.  The little birds consume a lot of seed when there is a big snowfall.

"Just look at those squirrely things racketing through the snow."

Oops!  He lost his grip and fell off.

This English sparrow is having an identity crisis -- he evidently thinks he's a nuthatch.

Slipping, slipping!

Footing re-established...

Now he's impersonating a finch!

Did you know a junco could raise his topknot feathers like that?

Look at that little cottontail, upper left, making a quick get-away!

Canada geese

They just keep a-comin'!

... and a-comin'!

  1. Sarah I love your pictures. I enjoy feeding my 'livestock' as I refer to them as. I have squirrels, cardinals, snowbirds, different sparrows, bluejays, and the biggest bevy of white Doves. Regardless of what the weather is doing, I've got to see that they have food and water. Wish I could get pictures like you do tho. I do take some but not as pretty as yours. I also have ducks that come into the yard to eat, and behind me a gaggle of geese hang out, in fact a bunch flew out of the field just before sunset this evening.. Thanks for sharing your pictures.. Wish we had 15" of snow!! I LOVE snow..alas, none yet here.. ;o(

    1. Thank you, Jean! I, too, love snow, though it *does* make things more difficult for all my menfolk who work in construction. What fun, having ducks in your yard. :-)
