Photos: Trip to Florida, Day 5, Part 1 -- Sunrise, and Homes of Daytona Beach

The first shots were taken from the third-floor balcony of our room at Coral Sands Inn between 7:10 and 7:19 a.m.

The following photos were taken two hours later:

I went up to the fifth-floor balcony to shoot these:

Royal terns (the ones having a bad hair day) and laughing gulls.  The dark-colored birds are juveniles.

A few of the gulls are sleeping, heads cranked around backwards and tucked under wings.

Look at the terns, screaming, "Homo sapiens approach!  Homo sapiens approach!"

This woke up the gulls.  The one in the middle shook his head, then yawwwwned hugely.

The people draw nearer...

...and nearer...

...and the birds take to wing.

((flap flap flap))

Why do several of the laughing gulls stay put throughout this commotion?

The terns (and one gull) re-alight.

And off we go to the quilt show!
It seems we are driving through some of the more affluent areas of town, right along the beach.

Since we are north of the city, this means that all the pretty houses are on Larry's side of the vehicle -- hence the window and rear-view mirror.

How 'bout that?!  I photographed a burglary in progress, and never even knew it until editing photos on my computer!
Or maybe it's just a spy thriller being filmed (though the director, cinematographer, and various grips are conspicuously absent).

Pepto Bismol pink?!

Look at that -- even the very rich have trash pick-up day (though they try to hide the evidence behind skinny trees, it seems).

What if you moved from the house below into this one, and then got in a hurry as you exited, forgot yourself, and went straight, instead of sashaying to one side or the other?

  1. I got to see some of those beautiful mansions better than I ever have seen them because I'm always the 1 that's driving. Thanks!

    1. Aren't they spectacular? Some are absolutely beautiful, and some are, uh, ... *amazing*, heh. I would have loved driving through more of those neighborhoods, but we just didn't have the time (nor did Larry have the inclination, ha).
