From Steinke Ranch to Pioneer Museum

Colome, SD, population 340. Colome was founded in June 1908 upon the opening of Tripp County to homesteading. On November 28, 1910, the Chicago and Northwestern Railway reached town on its Norfolk, Nebraska branch line. In June 1978 the final train passed through Colome on its way back to Norfolk and the railway line was abandoned.

Winner, SD, population 3,137, well known for its pheasant hunting

Right here, the transmission suddenly went out of Overdrive.  This morning, Larry fixed a leak in the rear axle.  Perhaps it is low on oil?  Perhaps it is wiring?  A fuse?

We're back on the road... and have discovered that the power windows don't work.  This may be a good sign -- that is, the Overdrive problem might be merely a blown fuse.

Antelope

Buffalo -- he was far, far away on a distant ridge.  I was not sure what he was until I enlarged the photo.

Presho, SD, population 514

Is everyone's 30W fuses blowing today?  We stopped at three businesses, and the hook for the size of fuse we need was empty.  Larry took one from another location in the pickup, put it in place -- and it promptly blew, as soon as he put the truck in Overdrive.  Grounding problem, most likely.  We'll continue to Ft. Pierre sans Overdrive.  Larry rewired things a bit so that at least we can roll the windows down now.  And it is a nice spring day, if you don't mind 30 mph winds.

Meanwhile, the leak in the rear -- isn't leaking anymore.  However, the spring for the throttle cable has gotten wimpy or needs to be oiled, and doesn't release and let the truck idle down properly when we slow and stop.  So it chugs and lurches until Larry puts it into neutral.
