We went to
Wall Drug when I was a little girl. I recall Daddy being totally unimpressed because of the great crush of people inside. It's been considerably updated since then; someday I'd like to see it again. But it's 134 miles farther west, and we are already running late.

Too bad we didn't have time to explore a bit; this is an interesting old town built at the confluence of the Missouri and Bad Rivers in 1817, and there are multiple museums. |

Bridge crossing the Missouri River. There is an island in the middle of the river, on which is located
La Framboise Island
Nature Area. The island was mentioned in the Lewis and Clark journals, though they called it 'The Bad Humor Island', due to a tense encounter with the Teton Sioux. |

Larry in skid loader |

On the trailer -- and the loader is heavier than the owner said, and it broke the trailer frame. The man thinks everything will be fine, since the loader seems to be 'balanced'. Larry said no, he wasn't about to drive all the way home -- 310 miles -- with a broken frame on the trailer, under that heavy skid loader, on bumpy roads. So the guy found us a welder.
The welder was a nice, helpful man who wouldn't take anything for his work -- and only asked $25 for the company's metal. Larry gave him $50 -- $25 for the company, $25 for him. |
